MODE May 25th - Eli Keszler / Kafka's Ibiki / Park Jiha

33-33 and BLISS bring back MODE, the global events series celebrating extraordinary music and arts. Originally presented in London, 2023’s edition – the first since 2019 – ventures to Tokyo, celebrating a diverse mix of music and performance from around the world. Conceived by 33-33 in 2019, MODE is now a joint undertaking by 33-33 and BLISS.

The series builds on a longstanding collaboration with Japanese arts and music. The inaugural MODE, presented in 2018, was curated by Ryuichi Sakamoto – the pioneering composer who sadly passed away in March, and to whom this year’s series is now dedicated.

This year, 33-33 collaborate with Japanese curatorial collective BLISS, presenting a number of events across unique venues throughout Tokyo. They bring together a number of unique artists from around the world, creating a hive of international artistic activity in Tokyo over the course of two weeks.

Kicking off the series on 25 May is experimental percussionist Eli Keszler, who rounds out a bill featuring Kafka’s Ibiki – the trio made up of Jim O’Rourke, Eiko Ishibashi and Tatsuhisa Yamamoto – and South Korean musician and composer Park Jiha, who plays a variety of traditional instruments, at an event co-presented with Tokyo’s experimental music institution Bar Nightingale.

About tickets

■ Due to the venue's location, there is only one lift. Please allow plenty of time for your visit as congestion is expected immediately before the performance.

■ For production reasons, entry will be restricted during the performance. Please follow the instructions of the staff when entering and exiting the venue.
